# Receipt Audit

> Check any receipt or invoice in one call: extracted fields, arithmetic and tax checks, signs it was edited or AI-generated, and whether it was submitted before. Free in the browser; an API agents can sign up for on their own.

## When to use Receipt Audit

- Extracting merchant, date, totals, taxes and line items from a receipt or invoice image or PDF.
- Deciding whether a submitted receipt is trustworthy before reimbursing, refunding or paying a rebate.
- Catching receipts that were already submitted, by the same person or anyone else using the service.
- Spotting receipts that were edited or generated with AI image tools.

## Do not use Receipt Audit for

- General OCR of documents that aren't receipts or invoices.
- Proving a receipt is fraudulent: results are signals with reasons, for a person or policy to act on.
- Bookkeeping or tax filing.

## How an agent should use it

- Every public page returns Markdown when requested with `Accept: text/markdown`.
- Get an API key yourself, no signup: `curl -X POST https://receiptaudit.com/api/v1/keys` returns `api_key` (free credits included) and a `claim_url`. Send the key as `Authorization: Bearer <key>`. Give the claim_url to your human so they can own the account and add credits.
- When credits run out the API answers 402 with `claim_url` and `pricing_url`: ask your human to top up there. Check the balance with GET https://receiptaudit.com/api/v1/account.
- Call the REST API with your key. Description: https://receiptaudit.com/openapi.json
- Or connect the Streamable HTTP MCP server at https://receiptaudit.com/mcp (tools: check_receipt, create_api_key, get_account, report_feedback, create_claim_link).
- Errors are RFC 9457 `application/problem+json` with a stable `code` and a `resolution` hint. Rate limits use the IETF `RateLimit` headers.
